Nong Khai: Gateway to Laos

Nong Khai lies at the end of the Northern arm of the North-Eastern Railway, on the border with
Laos. It is a typical Thai border town: straggling along the Mekong River, it has a huge Border Market,
an abundance of Backpacker Hotels and a busy river life. It is also an important gateway to Laos and
most people visit Nong Khai on the way to Vientiane.

Flooding in Bangkok

Yesterday I took a trip around Lat Krabang and Minburi on the outskirts of Bangkok. Lat Krabang road was flooded up to a foot in places near the airport, and

The New Bangkok Airport has opened for partial service

Yesterday I rode on the new Bangkok Airport Link for the first time, from central Bangkok to Lad Krabang station, a few minutes from the airport. The new elevated railway runs parallel with the old Eastern Railway Line from Phyathai, Central Bangkok, to Lad Krabant and then swings south into the heart of the airport. The journey took only 15 minutes.

The New Bangkok Airport opens nearly full service from 23rd August

According to a statement from the SRT on 17th of August, a nearly full service will commence, Monday 23rd August. Fees for now will be 15 Baht for the City Line (Airport to Phyathai) and 100 Baht for the Express Line (non-stop from Airport to Makkasan). Both services will run from 6am to midnight with a train leaving every 15 minutes. Baggage check-in at Makkasan station is not yet available.
